Hey Reader,
It's half term, so the creative urge is still very much there, but increasingly difficult to channel and practise right now. Some days it looks like one, maybe two paragraphs on a Substack post. Other days, it's writing in my journal and a side of A4 drivel when I wake up (those of you who have read the Artist's Way, this is my idea of Morning Pages!)
It's been so hot I keep planning to write at night, but by then the brain-fog has well and truly set in. So here we are, in stolen moments. I've already decided that over summer, it's time to negotiate some proper time for my own creative output - without it I just get ratty and quite frankly, rubbish at looking after small people.
And above the YouTube videos and Substack posts, the most important thing for me to carry on with over the summer are these letters.
I've been thinking about letters a lot. My daughter's class are getting penpals and it reminds me of when I was younger and I had quite a few, from a number of countries too. The excitement of receiving a hand written letter, franked with a stamp from another country (yes...I was a stamp collector!), and reading about what was going on in someone else's life from a different land, different family, different culture.
Now we just have to log onto social media and see it all instantly. Knowing about other people's lives without having to even speak or write to them. Emails used to feel exciting to receive...but now we're just dealing with the backlog. Overconsumption on so many levels now that it's almost difficult to remember how it was before all this.
So I want to bring something of that back. A real exchange. Yes, via email - but a real letter nonetheless.
If something in these letters has landed for you - if you found yourself nodding, or something shifted as you read - write to me. Tell me a bit about where you are right now. What's ended, what you're carrying, what's pulling at you.
I read everything personally. And if it feels right, I'll suggest a plant that fits where you are - something you can grow, find, make with, or simply spend time alongside while you're in the middle of it.
Nothing to prepare, Nothing to prove. Just hit reply.

Follow the Path
The Orientation
If you're in the thick of a life transition and could do with seeing the shape of the path beneath your feet, my free workshop - Finding Your Footing Through a Life Transition - is a good place to start. You can find out more and access it here.
The Witnessing
If you need something more personal — write to me. Hit reply and tell me a little about where you are: what's ended, what you're carrying, what's pulling at you. I'll write back, and if it feels right I'll suggest a plant ally or two that belong with where you are right now. I read every reply and I'm always glad to hear from you. Or if you'd rather talk book a tea & chat and we can explore it together over Zoom.
