Wild Rose Path

Path gone. Just like that.

Hey Reader,

It's Wednesday, and of course, I've been wandering again. Bringing back some wisdom from the Howgill Fells!

Today I went up to the stile to get onto the fell (Crook) that I found last week...but this time I followed the pipe track along hoping I could get across to Sickers fell. Probably wasn't the best day to do it after all the heavy rainfall, but feeling motivated (probably by impending half term), I thought I'd see how far I can go.

And it was a nice enough little path along the bottom of the fell...until it wasn't. The pic below is where I realised I was going to have to call it for today, because the path just fell away. You can't really tell the drop so well from the picture, but I didn't fancy my chances climbing down - particularly not in steel-toecapped wellingtons.

So I went back the way I came.

And as I did, it reminded me about when this happens in life, in business... and I think it's often why we try to hold onto things for maybe longer than we need to. Because we've given time, energy, belief, to get to where we are, walking this path and feeling like "Yeah - this is the right way". We can see where we'd like to end up over there in the distance.

Then we turn a corner and suddenly - path gone. Just like that.

It's that fracture point. The moment of realising we cannot continue any longer on the same path. We're desperately looking for another path or a way through, and telling ourselves "But I've put SO much into getting to this point"... that can really sting.

I don't believe that it was a waste of time walking that path. Because the path gave us experiences, information, clues about our own self, that we couldn't have found any other way.

Sometimes the only way through is to descend. Sometimes there's no way through on this current path at all - and the kindest thing we can do is turn back, find our footing, and look for another way in.

The path is still out there. Just not this one, not today.

Follow the Path

The Orientation

If you're in the thick of a life transition and could do with seeing the shape of the path beneath your feet, my free workshop - Finding Your Footing Through a Life Transition - is a good place to start. You can find out more and access it here.

The Witnessing

If you need something more personal — write to me. Hit reply and tell me a little about where you are: what's ended, what you're carrying, what's pulling at you. I'll write back, and if it feels right I'll suggest a plant ally or two that belong with where you are right now. I read every reply and I'm always glad to hear from you. Or if you'd rather talk book a tea & chat and we can explore it together over Zoom.

Wild Rose Path

For the ones who can see the life they want but can't yet find the path to it. For the woman who suspects the way back to herself might be through something older and slower and closer to the earth than anything she's tried so far. If you feel more like yourself near plants, or something in the natural world keeps catching your attention - that's not accidental. That's what we explore here through seasonal rhythm, plant wisdom, and the kind of knowing that lives in the body rather than the head.
